Lattingtown

Lattingtown is a coastal village located in the town of Oyster Bay in Nassau County on the North Shore of Long Island, about 33 miles east of Manhattan. Neighboring communities include Glen CoveBayville and Locust Valley; Long Island Sound is on its north side.

At the turn of the 20th century, Lattingtown and the surrounding Locust Valley area of which it is considered a part changed from acres of farmland into a haven of vast estates built by wealthy families and captains of industry with names like Vanderbilt and Morgan. Thus began the community's reputation as an exclusive and affluent network of neighborhoods where residents could escape the overcrowding of the city in their palatial estates and enjoy leisure activities like fishing, horseback riding, fox hunts, golfing and yachting. Some of these estates, many of which could span hundreds of acres, remain today, evoking the Gold Coast elegance of a bygone era. This affluent lifestyle is also still evident today in the area's private country and golf clubs like the exclusive Creek and Piping Rock clubs which count a significant number of residents among their members.

Lattingtown is a desirable community for a broad range of residents, not just the very wealthy. Homes here range from sprawling mansions and luxury homes to ranches, colonials and split-levels. Because of its prime location on Long Island Sound, it should come as no surprise that homes here are some of the most expensive in the country. With a high price tag comes a quiet and comfortable community with access to top amenities. Excellent schools both public and private are one reason families are attracted to the area. Another draw is the community's close proximity to Oyster Bay's beaches and parks. Visitors usually need no convincing that Lattingtown, like its Locust Valley neighbors, is a wonderful place to call home.
